In 2021, two HEC students, Nominoé Géron and Maxime Théate, brought the GrillHike concept to life. Originally from the Pays de Herve and passionate about nature, trail running, and hiking, they decided to turn their love for the outdoors into an entrepreneurial adventure. They developed the concept, established partnerships with local producers, created roadbooks, and launched their website.
The hikes started from the ski slope in Ovifat, at the foot of the Hautes Fagnes, close to the Warche valley and the Bayehon waterfall.
Despite challenging weather conditions — an exceptionally rainy first year followed by a scorching summer with a forest fire ban — the concept quickly found success and was warmly received by participants.
Over time, their professional commitments took them further away from the region. To ensure the continuity of the project, they decided to offer it to local businesses. Eventually, Ardenne Activity took over.
Based in Ovifat for nearly 10 years, Ardenne Activity specializes in guided e-scooter tours through the Hautes Fagnes and outdoor teambuilding experiences. GrillHike fits seamlessly into their offerings: an eco-friendly activity rooted in nature.
The new departure point for the hikes is now located less than 1 km from the ski slopes, on the Ardenne Activity site.
